Derrick Ramsey Autographs
Derrick Ramsey was born on May 6, 1956, in Sarasota, Florida. He is best known for his American football career, playing the position of quarterback for the University of Kentucky in the late 1970s. During his college career, Ramsey set multiple school records, including most passing yards in a single season and the most completions in a single game. After graduation, he went on to play in the National Football League (NFL) for six seasons, most notably as a tight end for the Oakland Raiders and the New England Patriots.
Ramsey’s success on the football field continued beyond his playing days, as he went on to have an acclaimed coaching career. He served as the head coach for the Kentucky Wildcats from 1987 to 1989, following a stint as an assistant coach for the University of Louisville. In 1991, he was hired as the athletic director for Coppin State University in Maryland, making him the first African-American athletic director in the state’s history. He would later serve as the Commissioner of the Kentucky High School Athletic Association, and in 2017, he was named the Secretary of the Kentucky Labor Cabinet.
Throughout his football career and beyond, Derrick Ramsey has shown himself to be a dedicated and influential figure in American sports. He is widely regarded as one of the most accomplished athletes to come out of the University of Kentucky, and his legacy as a player and coach continues to inspire young people across the country.
