Devin Funchess is a former American football player born on May 21, 1994, in Farmington Hills, Michigan. Funchess started playing football in high school, where he was a two-time All-State selection, recording impressive stats with 63 receptions for 837 yards and 11 touchdowns in his senior year. After high school, he enrolled at the University of Michigan in 2012, where he played for the Wolverines football team.
During his sophomore year, Funchess wore the number 87, becoming the first Michigan player to wear this number since the legendary tight end, Ron Kramer. He played both as a tight end and a wide receiver, recording 748 yards and six touchdowns in his sophomore year. With his impressive performances on the pitch, he was named First Team All-Big Ten by the media in his junior year. In 2015, he declared for the NFL draft, forgoing his senior year of college eligibility.
After declaring for the draft, Funchess was selected in the second round of the 2015 NFL Draft by the Carolina Panthers. He played as a wide receiver for the Panthers for three seasons before joining the Indianapolis Colts in 2018, where he played for two seasons. In his NFL career, Funchess recorded 164 receptions, 2,265 yards, and 21 touchdowns in 63 games. However, he announced his retirement from the NFL on February 20, 2021, at the age of 26.
