Dexter Manley, born on February 2, 1959, played American football as a defensive end. He played college football at Oklahoma State University, where he was part of the team that won the Big Eight Conference Championship in 1983. He was drafted by the Washington Redskins in 1981 and quickly became an integral part of their defense. In his rookie season, he recorded 6.5 sacks and was named to the All-Rookie team. Manley played for the Washington Redskins for nine seasons, from 1981 to 1989, and during this time, he set franchise records with 97 sacks, 39 forced fumbles, and four interceptions. Manley was a key player in the Washington Redskins team that won Super Bowl XVII in 1983 and Super Bowl XXII in 1988. In Super Bowl XXII, he recorded two sacks against the Denver Broncos, helping his team secure a 42-10 victory. Manley was named to two Pro Bowls in his career, in 1986 and 1987. He was also named First-Team All-Pro in 1986. Despite his remarkable performance on the field, Manley struggled with drug addiction throughout his career, which led to his suspension from the NFL in 1989.
