Dicky Moegle Autographs
Dicky Moegle was born on September 14, 1934, in Matagorda County, Texas. He is a former professional American football player who played at the halfback position. Moegle is best known for his outstanding college football career and his exceptional performance in the 1954 Cotton Bowl game against Alabama.
Moegle played college football at Rice University from 1951-1954. During his freshman year, he was named the Southwest Conference Freshman of the Year after rushing for 666 yards and eight touchdowns. He continued to excel in the following seasons and was named All-American in 1953 and 1954. Moegle's most memorable moment came during the 1954 Cotton Bowl game when he broke free for a touchdown and was tackled by Tommy Lewis, a defensive player for Alabama, who had run onto the field from the sideline. The play is known as one of the most bizarre moments in college football history.
After college, Moegle was drafted by the San Francisco 49ers in the first round of the 1955 NFL Draft. He played for the 49ers from 1955-1958 and later played for the Pittsburgh Steelers in 1959. Moegle retired from football after the 1959 season due to a knee injury. He finished his NFL career with 2,238 rushing yards, 15 touchdowns, and an average of 4.3 yards per carry. Moegle's impact on the game of football was significant, and he will always be remembered as one of the greatest players to ever play at Rice University.
