Don Maynard was born in 1935 in Crosbyton, Texas, and he went on to become one of the greatest wide receivers in the history of American football. He played his college football for Texas Western College before he was drafted in the ninth round of the 1957 NFL Draft by the New York Giants. Maynard would go on to play for the Giants for four seasons before being traded in 1960 to the newly formed American Football League's New York Titans, which later changed to the New York Jets. Maynard's career with the Jets is where he made his biggest impact in the NFL. He played for the Jets from 1960 to 1972, and during this time, he was an essential part of the team's run to the AFL Championship in 1968 and Super Bowl III victory. He became a favorite target of quarterback Joe Namath and set numerous records throughout his time with the Jets.
