Dutch Clark Autographs
Earl Harry "Dutch" Clark was an American football player, coach, and scout who was born on October 11, 1906, in the small town of Fowler, Colorado. He attended the Colorado College where he played football as a halfback and was the team's captain. He was known for his speedy running attacks and his ability to catch and throw the ball accurately. Dutch Clark was one of the earliest gridiron stars to ascend to legendary status, and he had a significant impact on the sport's evolution.
Clark began his professional football career in 1926 playing for the Portsmouth Spartans, which later became the Detroit Lions. Clark played both offense and defense, and his exceptional skills helped his team win the 1935 NFL Championship. He was honored as an All-Pro four times and was named the league's Most Valuable Player in 1934. After retiring as a player in 1938, Dutch Clark became an assistant coach for the Lions and took over as head coach in 1940. He led the Lions to another NFL Championship in just his second year as the head coach.
Dutch Clark's legacy extends beyond his playing and coaching career. He was a trailblazer and a model of perseverance for other athletes. He played football in an era when professional athletes were not as well compensated as they are today, yet he persevered and became one of the most respected and celebrated football players of his time. He was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame, the Colorado Sports Hall of Fame, and the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Dutch Clark lived a full and accomplished life, and his contributions to the game of football will be remembered for generations to come.
