Clark's most famous moment in his career was in the 1981 NFC Championship game. With 58 seconds remaining and the 49ers trailing the Dallas Cowboys by a score, the quarterback, Joe Montana, threw a pass into the end zone towards Clark. Clark rose up and stretched out, catching the ball with his fingers and giving the 49ers a lead in the game. The play is known as "The Catch" and remains one of the most significant moments in NFL history. In 1982, Clark was chosen for his only Pro Bowl appearance, and he helped lead the 49ers to two Super Bowl victories with his impressive play on the field.

After retiring in 1987, Clark became a coach and was inducted into both the College Football Hall of Fame and the San Francisco 49ers Hall of Fame in 2018. After his retirement, he was diagnosed with ALS (also known as Lou Gehrig's disease) in 2015, and he used his platform to bring awareness to the disease and raise funds for research. Clark passed away on June 4, 2018, at the age of 61. His contributions to the game of American football and his charitable work will be forever remembered.
