Earle Bruce Autographs
Earle Bruce was a gifted American football coach who was born in Pierson, Iowa in 1931. Bruce began his coaching career as an assistant coach at the University of Ohio State, under Woody Hayes, in 1966. In 1972, he became the head coach of the program, and over the next few years, he led the team to some great victories. His most memorable win came in 1979 when the Buckeyes, led by quarterback Art Schlichter, went undefeated and won the Big Ten Conference title.
Bruce's success at Ohio State earned him a reputation as one of the top coaches in the nation, and he was soon offered the head coaching job at Iowa State University. Bruce took over the Cyclones in 1979, and over the next nine years, he transformed the program from a perennial loser to a respectable team. In 1981, Iowa State won its first-ever bowl game, defeating the University of Utah in the Fiesta Bowl. Bruce was named the Big Eight Conference Coach of the Year that same year.
Bruce's influence on American football extended far beyond his coaching career. He was a mentor and friend to many players, coaches, and fans, and he remained involved in the sport long after he retired. He died in April 2018, leaving behind a legacy as one of the most respected figures in the history of college football. Earle Bruce was a true American football legend, and his contributions to the sport will never be forgotten.
