Ed Podolak Autograph

Ed Podolak is a former American football player who made his mark in the sport during the 1960s and 1970s. Born in Cedar Rapids, Iowa in 1947, Podolak played college football at the University of Iowa as a running back, and earned All-Big Ten honors in 1968. He was then drafted in the second round of the 1969 NFL Draft by the Kansas City Chiefs, where he spent his entire pro career. More about Ed Podolak

Podolak quickly established himself as a valuable player on the Chiefs’ roster. He was primarily a running back, but also played on special teams and was an effective pass catcher out of the backfield. He was especially known for his performance in a famous playoff game against the Miami Dolphins in 1971, in which he had 350 all-purpose yards, a playoff record that still stands today. Podolak was also named to the Pro Bowl in 1975.

After retiring from the NFL in 1977, Podolak pursued a career in broadcasting, working for both radio and television networks covering college and NFL football. He was inducted into the Iowa Sports Hall of Fame in 2001, and his number 14 jersey was retired by the University of Iowa in 2004.
