Ed Sharockman Autograph

Ed Sharockman was a former American football player born in 1939 in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. He played in the National Football League (NFL) for the Minnesota Vikings from 1961-1970 as a cornerback. Although he was primarily known as a fierce defender, he was an all-around player who also contributed on special teams. During his ten-year career, Sharockman played in three Super Bowls and was twice named to the Pro Bowl. He was part of the Vikings' legendary Purple People Eaters defense that dominated the NFL in the late 1960s and early 1970s. More about Ed Sharockman

Sharockman played college football at the University of Pittsburgh before being drafted by the Philadelphia Eagles in the eighth round of the 1961 NFL Draft. However, he was traded to the Vikings before the start of his rookie season, where he found a home and became a key player in the team's success. He played alongside notable teammates such as Carl Eller, Jim Marshall, and Paul Krause. With a reputation as a tough and tenacious player, Sharockman was a formidable opponent for opposing wide receivers and became known for his hard-hitting tackles.

After retiring from the NFL in 1970, Sharockman worked as a coach for the Vikings and the Denver Broncos. He also pursued a career in business and became a successful real estate broker. In 2017, Sharockman was inducted into the University of Pittsburgh Athletics Hall of Fame, recognizing his outstanding contributions as a football player.
