The offensive guard played in the National Football League (NFL) for 17 seasons, mostly for the Minnesota Vikings and the San Diego Chargers. White started his football career at California State University, Long Beach, where he played for the Long Beach State 49ers. He was later drafted in the second round of the 1969 NFL draft by the Minnesota Vikings. In his first season with the team, White played in all 14 games and helped the Vikings reach the playoffs. He spent a total of 11 seasons with the Vikings, earning many accolades, including four Pro Bowl selections.

In 1978, White signed as a free agent with the San Diego Chargers and played with them for six seasons. He continued to perform at a high level, earning two more Pro Bowl selections in 1979 and 1980. White was renowned for his toughness, as he played in 241 consecutive NFL games, without missing a single one. He was inducted into the Minnesota Vikings Ring of Honor in 2007, and his contributions to American Football will always be remembered.
