Emlen Tunnell Autographs
Emlen Tunnell was an American football player who is widely regarded as one of the greatest safeties of all time. Born on March 29, 1924, in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania, Tunnell grew up in a working-class family and attended the University of Iowa where he played football and basketball.
Tunnell's professional football career began when he was signed by the New York Giants in 1948, becoming the first African American player in the team's history. He quickly established himself as a dominant defensive back and earned the nickname "The Gremlin." Over his 14-year career, he played in nine Pro Bowls and was named First-team All-Pro four times.
In addition to his on-field achievements, Tunnell was also a pioneer in breaking down racial barriers in sports. He was the first African American coach for the Giants and also served as the league's first black assistant coach with the Green Bay Packers. After retiring in 1961, he was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1967, cementing his legacy as one of the greatest players in the history of American football.
