Erasmus James was born on November 8, 1982, in Montego Bay, Jamaica, and later grew up in Pembroke Pines, Florida. He attended McArthur High School, where he was a star defensive end, earning Florida All-State honors as a senior. In 2005, James was selected by the Minnesota Vikings in the first round of the NFL Draft. He played for the Vikings for two seasons, from 2005 to 2006, appearing in 20 games and recording 5.5 sacks. However, his promising career was derailed by a series of injuries, including a shoulder injury that caused him to miss the entire 2007 season. He was waived by the Vikings in 2008 and picked up by the Washington Redskins, but was ultimately released before the start of the regular season.

Despite his short-lived NFL career, James left a lasting impact on the sport. His combination of speed, strength, and athleticism made him a force to be reckoned with on the field. He may not have reached the heights expected of a first-round pick, but he proved that he had the talent and work ethic to compete at the highest level of American football.
