Frankie Albert Autographs
Frankie Albert was an American football quarterback who played for four seasons in the NFL. He was born on January 27, 1920, in Chicago, Illinois. His family moved to San Francisco when he was a child, and he attended Polytechnic High School. He was an all-around athlete in high school, playing football, basketball, and baseball. As a football quarterback, he led his team to an undefeated season and the championship in his senior year.
After high school, Albert attended Stanford University, where he played football from 1940 to 1942. He was the starting quarterback for the Stanford Indians (now the Stanford Cardinal) and set several school records. He was also named an All-American in his junior and senior years. In 1942, he led Stanford to an 8-0-1 record and a Rose Bowl victory over the University of Nebraska. He was named the game's most valuable player.
Albert's professional football career began in 1946 when he was drafted by the San Francisco 49ers of the All-America Football Conference (AAFC). He played for the 49ers for four seasons and was named the AAFC's most valuable player in 1948. He was known for his accurate passing and scrambling ability, and he helped lead the 49ers to three straight AAFC championships from 1948 to 1950. When the AAFC merged with the NFL in 1950, Albert chose to retire from football and pursue a career in business. He remained involved in football as a coach and executive, serving as the 49ers' general manager from 1957 to 1968.
