Fred Arbanas Autograph

Fred Arbanas was born on January 14, 1939, in Detroit, Michigan. He attended Michigan State University and played college football for the Spartans. He was a standout tight end and defensive end and earned All-American honors in 1960. Arbanas was drafted in the second round by the Dallas Texans in the 1961 American Football League (AFL) draft. Arbanas quickly established himself as a top player in the AFL. He was known for his versatility and played both tight end and defensive end, providing a formidable presence at both positions. He was named to the AFL All-Star team six times and was a key player on the Chiefs team that won Super Bowl IV in 1970, catching a touchdown pass in the game. Arbanas was also known for being a tough competitor and played through multiple injuries over the course of his career.

After retiring from football, Arbanas stayed involved in the sport as a broadcaster and then as a politician. He served as a Jackson County, Missouri, legislator for nearly 40 years and championed causes related to sports and recreation. Arbanas passed away on April 17, 2021, at the age of 82.
