Fred Lane was an American football running back whose career spanned from 1997 to 2000. Born on February 17, 1976, in Franklin, Tennessee, Lane played college football at Lane College, where he rushed for 2,688 yards and 39 touchdowns in his senior season. Unfortunately, Lane's football career was cut short by his untimely death in 2000, when he was murdered by his wife in what was a domestic violence incident. He was only 24 years old at the time of his death. Lane's legacy has been remembered in several ways, including a fund for his daughter, a high school football field that was named in his honor, and continued recognition of his contributions to the game of football. Despite his short time in the game, Fred Lane will forever be remembered as a talented and dynamic player who left a mark on the sport.
