George Mira Autographs
George Mira was an American football quarterback who had a successful career in both college and professional football. Born on January 11, 1942, in Key West, Florida, Mira attended Miami Senior High School where he played in the position of a quarterback. He was chosen as Florida's high school player of the year in 1959 and later received scholarship offers from several universities. Mira chose to attend the University of Miami and was the starting quarterback for the Hurricanes from 1961 to 1963.
Mira's college football career was remarkable, as he set several records at Miami, including most career touchdown passes and most career yards. He was also a three-time All-American and led his team to win the Orange Bowl in 1962. Mira was drafted by the San Francisco 49ers in the second round of the NFL's 1964 draft. He played for the team from 1964 to 1968, and his best season was in 1965 when he passed for over 2,000 yards and 16 touchdowns. Mira later played for the Canadian Football League's Montreal Alouettes and the World Football League's Memphis Southmen before retiring in 1975.
Mira's football career was marked by his athleticism, speed, and ability to read and react quickly to opposing defenses. He was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 1985, and his jersey number 10 was retired by the University of Miami. Mira's life after football was not as successful, and he faced personal and financial difficulties. Nevertheless, he will always be remembered as one of the greatest college quarterbacks in history and a pioneer for Cuban-American athletes in football.
