George Tarasovic Autographs
George Tarasovic is a former American football player who was born on January 16, 1930, in Carnegie, Pennsylvania. He is considered one of the greatest linebackers and defensive players of his time in the NFL. Tarasovic attended the University of Pittsburgh and played as a fullback and linebacker for the Pittsburgh Panthers.
After college, Tarasovic was drafted by the Washington Redskins in the fifth round of the 1952 NFL Draft. He played for the Redskins from 1952 to 1956 before being traded to the Philadelphia Eagles. He played for the Eagles for one season before being traded back to the Redskins in 1958. Tarasovic played his last two seasons with his hometown team, the Pittsburgh Steelers, before retiring in 1961. In his nine-year NFL career, he played in 89 games, recorded 22 interceptions, and was named to two Pro Bowls.
Tarasovic also had a successful coaching career in the NFL. He was an assistant coach for the St. Louis Cardinals, Houston Oilers, and Buffalo Bills. He was also the head coach of the Philadelphia Bell in the World Football League. Despite his coaching success, Tarasovic is best known for his playing career and was inducted into the Western Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame in 1980. He passed away on August 23, 1999, at the age of 69.
