Gerald Riggs, an American football running back, was born on November 6, 1960. He grew up in the small town of Bonham, Texas, and attended Bonham High School, where he made a name for himself as a standout athlete. Riggs became a vital player on both the football and track teams in high school, and his athletic ability paved the way for his successful college and professional football careers.
After high school, Riggs attended Arizona State University, where he played college football from 1979 to 1981. During his three seasons at ASU, Riggs had over 4,000 all-purpose yards and set several school records. His talent on the field garnered attention from NFL teams, and in 1982, the Atlanta Falcons drafted him in the first round of the NFL draft. Riggs spent the majority of his NFL career with the Falcons, where he became one of the most dominant running backs in the league. During his 10 seasons with the Falcons, Riggs amassed over 10,000 yards rushing and scored 69 touchdowns.
Riggs' impact on the field did not go unnoticed. He was selected to three Pro Bowls during his career and holds several NFL records, including being the fastest player in NFL history to reach 8,000 yards rushing. Despite facing numerous injuries throughout his career, Riggs remained a formidable player and earned the respect of both his teammates and opponents. After retiring from the NFL in 1991, Riggs went on to coach football at the high school level and start his own sports performance facility. His legacy as one of the greatest running backs in NFL history remains intact to this day.
