Gino Cappelletti Autographs
Gino Cappelletti is a retired American football player and broadcaster, best known for his illustrious career as a placekicker and wide receiver for the Boston Patriots (now the New England Patriots). Born in Minnesota in 1934, Cappelletti grew up in Keewatin, a small mining town in northern Minnesota. He attended the University of Minnesota and played football for the Golden Gophers, earning All-American honors in 1954.
After college, Cappelletti was drafted by the Philadelphia Eagles in the 12th round of the 1956 NFL Draft. However, he chose to play in the American Football League (AFL) instead, signing with the Boston Patriots in 1960. Cappelletti played for the Patriots for his entire 11-year career, earning five AFL All-Star selections and being named the league's MVP in 1964. He was a versatile player, serving as both a placekicker and wide receiver, and was known for his exceptional accuracy on field goals and point-after-touchdown attempts. He retired in 1970 as the AFL's all-time leading scorer with 1,130 points.
Following his playing career, Cappelletti worked as a broadcaster for the Patriots and was a color commentator on NFL on CBS broadcasts for many years. He was inducted into the Patriots Hall of Fame in 1992 and the College Football Hall of Fame in 1993. Cappelletti is considered one of the greatest players in Patriots history, and his number 20 jersey was retired by the team in 1982.
