Graham Gano was born on April 9, 1987, in Scotland, but he was raised in Pensacola, Florida. He attended J. M. Tate High School, where he played football as a kicker, punter, and wide receiver. He was an accomplished player at the high school level, earning first-team All-State honors as a kicker and punter in his senior year. Graham Gano began his professional football career in 2009 when the Baltimore Ravens signed him as a free agent. He was later released but signed with the Las Vegas Locomotives of the United Football League, where he played one season. Gano then signed with the Washington Redskins in 2009, where he played for four seasons, becoming one of the league's most reliable kickers. He then signed with the Carolina Panthers in 2012, where he played for nine years, becoming one of the best kickers in the team's history. He led the Panthers to Super Bowl 50 in February 2016.

Throughout his football career, Graham Gano has set several records and won several awards. In 2017, he was named a Pro Bowl alternative after his impressive performance during the regular season. Also, in a game against the New York Giants in 2018, he set the record for the longest game-winning field goal in NFL history, scoring a 63-yard field goal.
