Greg Coleman is a former American football player who had a successful career as a punter in the National Football League (NFL) and the United States Football League (USFL). Born on October 10, 1954, in Orlando, Florida, Coleman started playing football in his high school days at Edgewater High School, where he was an all-state punter. He then attended Florida A&M University, where he honed his punting skills and became a standout player in college football.
Coleman's football career took off when he was drafted by the Cincinnati Bengals in the 14th round of the 1976 NFL Draft. However, it was his stint with the Minnesota Vikings from 1978 to 1987 that he is most known for. As the team's starting punter, Coleman set several records, including the longest punt in Vikings history of 75 yards. He was notable for his consistency and accuracy, and earned All-Pro honors in 1980 and 1984. He was also a respected leader on and off the field, serving as the Vikings' team captain for three years.
Coleman's NFL career ended after the 1987 season, but he continued to play for a few more years in the USFL and the Canadian Football League (CFL). After retiring from football, Coleman went on to have a successful broadcasting career, becoming a sports analyst for both local and national networks. He also founded the Greg Coleman Football Camp, where he mentors young football players and helps them develop their skills on and off the field. Coleman's contribution to the sport of football continues to inspire and motivate the next generation of players.
