Greg Hawthorne is a former American football player who played as a running back in the National Football League (NFL). He was born on May 10, 1956, in Mount Vernon, New York. Hawthorne showed a keen interest in football from an early age, and he began playing in high school. He went on to play football at the University of Baylor, where he distinguished himself as an exceptional player.
Hawthorne’s professional career began in 1979 when he was drafted into the NFL by the Pittsburgh Steelers. He was an instant success, with his versatile skills and agility making him a valuable player. Hawthorne played for the Steelers for four seasons, during which he amassed 1,653 yards and scored 18 touchdowns. In 1983, he was traded to the New England Patriots, where he played for another four seasons, recording 1,784 rushing yards and 16 touchdowns. During his eight-year professional career, he was a reliable and hardworking player who always gave his best.
After his professional football career ended, Hawthorne returned to his alma mater, Baylor University, to work as the school’s director of university relations. He has also remained active in promoting the game of football, particularly at the youth level, where he has been involved in coaching and mentoring young players. Hawthorne remains a beloved figure in the world of American football, with a legacy that spans several decades.
