Greg Montgomery Autographs
Greg Montgomery was a former American football player who is remembered for his incredible punting abilities during his time at Michigan State University and with several teams in the National Football League (NFL). Born on January 24, 1963, in Houston, Texas, Montgomery played high school football at Sidney Lanier High School before joining Michigan State in 1982. He became the starting punter for the Spartans in his sophomore year and went on to become one of the most successful punters in college football history.
After graduating from Michigan State in 1986, Montgomery was selected by the Houston Oilers in the third round of the NFL Draft. He spent the first seven years of his professional career with the Oilers, where he established himself as one of the best punters in the league. Montgomery was named to the Pro Bowl three times during his career and was selected as a First-Team All-Pro in 1993. In 1994, he signed with the Detroit Lions and played two seasons with the team before retiring in 1997.
Despite being known mainly for his punting, Montgomery was also a versatile athlete who played a variety of positions during his high school and college career, including quarterback, running back, and defensive back. He was a key member of Michigan State's 1985 Big Ten championship team and played in two Rose Bowls. Montgomery's legacy as one of the greatest punters of all time was cemented by his induction into the Michigan State Athletics Hall of Fame in 2001 and the Texas Sports Hall of Fame in 2012.

Former All-Pro punter Montgomery dies at 55 (09/05/2020): Greg Montgomery, an All-Pro punter who spent nine years in the NFL with the Houston Oilers, Detroit and Baltimore, has died. He was 55. Montgomery still holds the Big Ten record by averaging 49.7 yards per punt at Michigan State in 1986.
