Greg Townsend Autographs
Greg Townsend is a former professional American football defensive end who is best remembered for his 13-year career with the Los Angeles Raiders. Born in Los Angeles, California, on October 3, 1961, Townsend played high school football for Morningside High School before enrolling at Texas Christian University. In college, he played defensive end and was named to the First-Team All-Southwest Conference in 1982.
The Los Angeles Raiders selected Townsend in the fourth round of the 1983 NFL Draft, and he made an immediate impact in his rookie year, playing in all 16 games and accumulating 10 sacks. He would continue to wreak havoc on opposing quarterbacks throughout his career, finishing with 107.5 sacks, which ranks second in franchise history behind only Hall of Famer Howie Long. Townsend was a feared pass rusher who relied on his speed, agility, and strength to overpower offensive linemen and disrupt plays. He was selected to the Pro Bowl twice (1984, 1990) and was named All-Pro in 1984.
Off the field, Townsend was known for his charitable work, including starting the Greg Townsend Foundation, which helped support underserved children in Southern California. He retired from football after the 1997 season and currently works as a motivational speaker and sports commentator. Townsend's legacy in the NFL is one of dominance and perseverance, as he overcame numerous injuries, including a torn ACL, to become one of the most feared defensive linemen of his era.
