Harlon Hill’s football career began in 1950 when he was drafted in the 15th round by the Chicago Bears. In his rookie season, Hill played in only six games, but his performance was impressive. He caught 11 passes for 233 yards with a record-breaking five touchdowns, which led him to be named the Rookie of the Year. Hill continued to produce great numbers and in 1954 he achieved his best season, catching 45 passes for 1,124 yards and 12 touchdowns. Hill was the first player to have 1,000 yards in a season, and he also led the league in receptions, receiving yards, and touchdowns. He was then named the NFL’s Player of the Year, an accolade he repeated in 1955.

Harlon Hill was famous for his acrobatic catches and his incredible speed. But his career was cut short in 1962 due to a knee injury that stopped him from playing for the Pittsburgh Steelers. Even though his professional career was short, in his seven years in the league, he played in 87 games and caught 233 passes for 4,717 yards and 40 touchdowns. Hill was known for his contribution to the game and was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 1991. Harlon Hill passed away in 2013 in Florence, Alabama, at the age of 80.
