Heath Shuler is a former American football quarterback who was born on December 31, 1971, in Bryson City, North Carolina. In high school, Shuler was a standout athlete, excelling in both football and baseball. He went on to attend the University of Tennessee, where he played football for three seasons. Shuler was drafted by the Washington Redskins in the first round of the 1994 NFL Draft, and he spent three seasons with the team. While he had some success in Washington, Shuler was ultimately traded to the New Orleans Saints in 1997. His time with the Saints was brief, and he was traded to the Oakland Raiders before the start of the 1998 season. However, Shuler's career came to an abrupt end when he suffered a severe foot injury in preseason.
