Herb Adderley Autograph

Herb Adderley was one of the greatest cornerbacks to ever play American Football. Born on June 8, 1939, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, he started his career at Northeast High School, and then moved on to play college football for Michigan State. During his time at Michigan, he was a two-time All-American and played as a running back, kick returner, and cornerback. He was eventually selected in the first round of the 1961 NFL draft by the Green Bay Packers. Adderley spent nine years with the Packers and then finished his career with the Dallas Cowboys in 1972. Adderley had a phenomenal career in American Football: he won five NFL championships with the Packers, played in seven Pro Bowls, and was named an All-Pro five times. He was an essential part of the Packers dynasty of the 1960s, known as one of the most successful periods in NFL history. In addition, he played in two Super Bowls, one with the Packers and one with the Cowboys. Adderley also intercepted 48 passes in his career, returned seven for touchdowns, and had over 1,000 yards on kickoff returns.

After retiring from the game as a player, Adderley transitioned into coaching. He spent time as an assistant coach with the Green Bay Packers and then moved on to become the head coach at Southwestern College in Kansas. Later on, he had a brief stint as a defensive backs coach with the New England Patriots. In 1980, Adderley was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame, a fitting honor for such a dominant player.
