Howard Mudd Autographs
Howard Mudd was a renowned American football player and coach with over fifty years of experience in the sport. He was born on February 10, 1942, in Midland, Michigan. He began his football career in college, playing as an offensive guard and linebacker for Hillsdale College. Mudd's playing days ended in 1964, after which he began coaching in various capacities.
Mudd's coaching career saw him work with different teams such as the San Diego Chargers, San Francisco 49ers, Cleveland Browns, Kansas City Chiefs, Seattle Seahawks, Indianapolis Colts, and Philadelphia Eagles. He was renowned for his expertise in coaching offensive linemen, which earned him the nickname "Father of the Zone Blocking Scheme." In his years as a coach, he mentored some of the NFL's best offensive linemen, including Jeff Saturday, Tarik Glenn, Will Shields, and Anthony Muñoz.
Mudd was also highly regarded as a tactician and innovator in American football, and his contributions to the sport have undoubtedly left a significant impact. In his final season as an offensive line coach with the Colts in 2013, he helped the team set an NFL record with the fewest sacks allowed in a season. Howard Mudd passed away on August 12, 2020, at the age of 78, leaving behind a legacy and imprint on the sport of American football forever.
