Throughout his career, he was known for his exceptional speed and quickness, which made him a fierce pass rusher. Green was a two-time Pro Bowler and two-time First-Team All-Pro selection, and he also holds the Seahawks' all-time sack record with 97.5. He helped lead the Seahawks to five playoff appearances during his tenure and was inducted into the Seahawks Ring of Honor in 1995.

After retiring from the NFL, Green returned to Texas and founded Jacob Green's Champions Foundation, a non-profit organization that helps underprivileged children. In recognition of his philanthropic work, Green was awarded the prestigious Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year Award in 1990.
