Jeff King is a former Major League Baseball player who was born on December 26, 1964, in Marion, Indiana. He was drafted in the first round of the 1986 MLB draft by the Pittsburgh Pirates, where he made his debut in 1989. King was primarily a third baseman but also played first base and second base during his career.
King's best season came in 1996 when he hit .271 with 30 home runs, 111 RBIs, and 93 runs scored, earning him a spot on the National League All-Star team. He played for the Pirates from 1989 to 1996, then signed with the Kansas City Royals as a free agent, where he played from 1997 to 1999. In 1999, King suffered a career-ending injury to his left shoulder and was forced to retire at the age of 34.
Overall, King played 11 seasons in the Major Leagues, finishing with a .256 career batting average, 154 home runs, and 574 RBIs. He was known for his solid defense, versatility, and his ability to hit for power. After retiring, King returned to his hometown of Marion, Indiana, where he has been involved in various business ventures, including a baseball academy for youth players.
