Jerry Sherk Autographs
Jerry Sherk was born on September 6, 1948, in Sacramento, California. He attended high school in Santa Ana, California, and excelled as a football player. His talent earned him a scholarship to University of Oklahoma. Sherk played for the Sooners from 1967 to 1969, helping the team win two national championships. He was an All-American defensive tackle in 1969 and was later inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 1996. Sherk was drafted by the Cleveland Browns in the second round of the 1970 NFL Draft.
Sherk played his entire NFL career with the Cleveland Browns from 1970 to 1981. In his rookie year, he played as a backup for the veteran defensive tackle, Walter Johnson. It wasn't until his second season that he became a starter in the Browns defense. Sherk played as a dominant force on the defensive line, utilizing his speed and agility to sack opposing quarterbacks and disrupt running plays. He was named to the Pro Bowl twice in his career (1973 and 1975) and was a first-team All-Pro selection in 1976.
In 1981, Sherk decided to retire from football due to a concussion he suffered during a game against the Pittsburgh Steelers. He left the game as one of the best defensive tackles to ever play for the Browns. His career numbers included 56.5 sacks and 16 fumble recoveries. Sherk's impact on the game of football extended beyond his playing career. He served as a coach for the Browns and authored several books on strength training and fitness. In 2003, he was inducted into the Cleveland Browns Legends program, a tribute to the franchise's all-time greats.
