Jim HaslettJim Haslett is a former American football linebacker and coach who played in the National Football League (NFL) for eight seasons. He was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in 1955 and attended Indiana University of Pennsylvania where he played college football. In 1979, he was signed by the Buffalo Bills as an undrafted free agent and played for them until 1985 when he was traded to the New York Jets, where he retired in 1987.
After retiring from playing football, Haslett became a coach and served as the linebackers coach for the Sacramento Surge of the World League of American Football (WLAF). In 1993, he was promoted to defensive coordinator and helped lead the Surge to back-to-back league championships. He also served as a defensive coordinator for the Pittsburgh Steelers, New Orleans Saints, St. Louis Rams, and Washington Redskins, before being hired as the head coach of the Saints in 2000.
As the head coach of the Saints, Haslett led the team to three consecutive 8-8 seasons and a division championship in 2000. However, the team struggled in the following years and Haslett was fired after the 2005 season. He then went on to work as a defensive coordinator for the Rams and Redskins before retiring from coaching in 2017. Overall, Haslett had a successful career as both a linebacker and a coach, and is regarded as an important figure in the history of American football.
