After playing college football for Notre Dame, he was drafted by the Kansas City Chiefs in the second round of the 1967 NFL Draft. Jim Lynch played seven seasons for the Chiefs as a starting linebacker, and he proved to be a vital cog in the team’s defense. He helped lead the Chiefs to two Super Bowl appearances, including a win in Super Bowl IV against the Minnesota Vikings. In the 1971 season, Lynch was named to the AFL All-Star Team and was also recognized as the most valuable player of the AFC Championship Game.

Jim Lynch retired from the NFL in 1974 after a seven-year career with the Chiefs. In his time with the team, he played in 84 games, starting in 79, and recorded 14 interceptions and 10 fumble recoveries. After retiring from football, Lynch went on to become a television commentator for college and NFL football games, and he worked as a radio host of a sports talk show. Jim Lynch's legacy in American football continues to inspire young aspiring athletes, and his achievements in the sport have cemented him as one of the greatest players of his time.
