Jim Ritcher Autographs
Jim Ritcher was a former American football player who dominated the sport in the 1980s and early 1990s. He was born on December 21, 1958, in Buffalo, New York, and attended Iroquois Central School, where he honed his skills as a lineman. After high school, Ritcher chose to attend the University of North Carolina, where he played college football for the Tar Heels from 1976 to 1979. During his time at UNC, Ritcher was an All-American offensive guard and an integral member of the North Carolina team that reached the Gator Bowl in 1979.
After his college football career, Ritcher was drafted in the first round of the 1980 NFL draft by the Buffalo Bills. He spent 10 seasons with the Bills, where he quickly established himself as one of the premier guards in the league. During his tenure in Buffalo, Ritcher helped lead the Bills to four consecutive Super Bowl appearances from 1990 to 1993, including an AFC championship in 1991. Ritcher was a six-time Pro Bowler, and in 1988, he was named first-team All-Pro by the Associated Press. Following the 1990 season, Ritcher was named the NFL's Offensive Lineman of the Year.
In 1991, Ritcher was traded to the Atlanta Falcons, where he played for one season before retiring from football after the 1993 season. In his 14-year NFL career, Ritcher started 221 of the 223 games he played in, and he earned a reputation as one of the game's toughest and most durable players. After retiring from football, Ritcher returned to Buffalo, where he has worked as a commercial real estate agent and was named to the Bills' Wall of Fame in 2005.
