Jim Tyrer Autographs
Jim Tyrer was an American football offensive tackle who played in the National Football League (NFL) for 13 seasons. Born on December 30, 1939, in Danville, Kentucky, Tyrer attended Ohio State University, where he played college football. In 1961, he was drafted by the Dallas Texans, now known as the Kansas City Chiefs, in the third round of the NFL Draft.
Tyrer became a starting left tackle for the Texans just three games into his rookie season and remained at that position for the rest of his career. He was a key member of the 1969 Super Bowl-winning Chiefs team and was a nine-time AFL All-Star selection. He was also chosen as an All-Pro six times during his professional career. In 1972, he was traded to the Washington Redskins and played there for two seasons before retiring from professional football in 1974.
Despite his successful football career, Tyrer struggled with depression and financial problems in retirement. On September 15, 1980, he tragically took his own life at the age of 40. In 2019, Tyrer was posthumously inducted into the Kansas City Chiefs Hall of Fame, recognizing his contributions to the franchise and the sport of football.
