Joe Fields Autographs
Joe Fields was born on July 20, 1953, in Savannah, Georgia. He attended Savannah High School where he excelled in both football and baseball, earning All-State honors in both sports. After graduating in 1971, Fields received a scholarship to play football at Syracuse University. He played center for the Orange from 1971-1974, where he earned All-East and All-American honors. Fields was also a two-time Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) Academic All-American.
Fields was drafted in the 14th round of the 1975 NFL Draft by the New York Jets. He spent his entire 14-year career with the Jets, becoming one of the team’s most durable and reliable players. He started in 167 of the 171 games he played, including 160 consecutive starts from 1977 to 1987. Fields was a two-time Pro Bowler in 1985 and 1986 and was named the Jets’ MVP in 1987. He retired after the 1987 season with the distinction of being one of the most accomplished centers in Jets history.
Fields was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 1996 for his outstanding career at Syracuse. He has also been recognized by the Jets organization for his contributions as a player, and his #73 jersey was retired by the team in 2002. After his playing career, Fields became an assistant coach for the Jets and then went on to hold various executive positions in the NFL. Today, he remains a beloved figure in both Syracuse and Jets football history.
