Joe Lavender Autographs
Joe Lavender, born on October 26, 1949, is a former American football player who played in the National Football League (NFL) for nine seasons from 1973 to 1981. He was a defensive back for the Washington Redskins, leading them to two Super Bowl appearances in 1973 and 1981. Lavender played college football at San Diego State University, where he was a standout cornerback.
Lavender was drafted by the Philadelphia Eagles in the third round of the 1973 NFL Draft, but he was quickly traded to the Washington Redskins. He quickly became a fixture in the Redskins' defense, earning Pro Bowl honors in the 1979 season. During his nine-year career, Lavender maintained a reputation as one of the NFL's toughest and most physical cornerbacks, delivering big hits and clutch interceptions. He played in 120 games for the Redskins, recording 24 interceptions and three defensive touchdowns.
After retiring from football, Lavender went on to work in broadcasting and coaching. He also founded the Joe Lavender Foundation, which provided scholarships for students in his hometown of Beaumont, Texas. Lavender's contributions to the sport of football were recognized in 1996 when he was selected for induction into the San Diego State University Hall of Fame. Today, Lavender's impact on the game of football is still felt by those who watched him play and had the pleasure of competing against him.
