Joe Theisman Autographs
Joe Theismann is a former American football quarterback who played in the National Football League (NFL) for 12 seasons. Born on September 9, 1949, in New Brunswick, New Jersey, Theismann was recognized for his outstanding college career at the University of Notre Dame. He was selected by the Miami Dolphins in the fourth round of the 1971 NFL Draft but decided to join the Toronto Argonauts of the Canadian Football League instead. After three years with the Argonauts, Theismann moved to the Washington Redskins in 1974, where he played for the rest of his NFL career.
Theismann's NFL career spanned from 1974 to 1985, during which he helped lead the Washington Redskins to two Super Bowl appearances, one of which resulted in a victory. He was a two-time Pro Bowler and earned the NFL Most Valuable Player award in 1983. That same year, he also won the Bert Bell Award, which is given to the NFL's Player of the Year. Theismann's offensive play calling was an essential feature of the Redskins' Super Bowl XVII win against the Miami Dolphins. He passed for 143 yards and two touchdowns and set a record for the most yards gained in a Super Bowl game without attempting a pass.
Theismann's football career came to a halt in 1985 when he suffered a gruesome injury during a game against the New York Giants, with a career-ending compound fracture of his right leg. Despite this setback, Theismann has since dedicated himself to a career in broadcasting and became a popular television commentator for both NFL and college football games. He was also inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 2003 in recognition of his outstanding career at the University of Notre Dame.
