John Carlson is a former American football player who played in the National Football League (NFL) for nine seasons. Born on May 12, 1984, in Litchfield, Minnesota, Carlson grew up playing football and basketball. He played college football at the University of Notre Dame, where he played as a tight end, and recorded 100 receptions, 1,093 receiving yards, and eight touchdowns in his college career. In the 2008 NFL Draft, the Seattle Seahawks selected John Carlson in the second round as the 38th overall pick. Carlson quickly established himself as one of the top tight ends in the league, catching 55 passes for 627 yards and five touchdowns in his rookie year. He followed that up with another impressive season, catching 51 passes for 574 yards and seven touchdowns in 2009.
