John Mackey, born on September 24, 1941, in New York City, was an American professional football player. He played college football at Syracuse University and was selected by the Baltimore Colts in the second round of the 1963 NFL Draft. Mackey spent the majority of his professional career with the Baltimore Colts from 1963 to 1971. He quickly made a name for himself, using his speed and agility to dominate on the field. He was a four-time All-Pro selection and five-time Pro Bowler, and played a vital role in the Colts’ Super Bowl V victory in 1971. In his career, Mackey recorded 331 receptions for 5,236 yards and 38 touchdowns in 139 games, setting several records that stood for decades.

Mackey was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1992 and the College Football Hall of Fame in 1985. He passed away on July 6, 2011, at the age of 69 after battling dementia. He will always be remembered as one of the most talented and influential tight ends in American football history. Mackey's legacy lives on, and he remains an inspiration to aspiring football players around the world.
