John Matuszak was born on October 25, 1950, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Despite being big for his age, Matuszak started playing football only in high school where he demonstrated enormous talent as a defensive end. After graduation, he went to the University of Tampa where he played for the Spartans for three years, and, in his sophomore and junior seasons was named to the All-American team of small colleges. In 1973, Matuszak was drafted by the Houston Oilers, but his NFL career didn’t take off until he was traded to the Oakland Raiders in 1976. More about John Matuszak

Matuszak retired from the NFL in 1982, having played for nine seasons, six of which were with the Raiders. Despite his relatively short NFL tenure, he is still remembered as one of the most dominating defensive players of his time. After his football career, Matuszak tried his hand at acting, appearing in various movies and television shows, including the hit film “Goonies.” He passed away in 1989 at the age of 38 due to complications related to a heart disease he had suffered from throughout his life.
