John McKay Autographs

John McKay (September 5, 1923 - June 10, 2001) is one of the most legendary names in American football history. He was a player, coach, and executive who helped shape the game into what it is today. McKay is best known for his time as head coach of the USC Trojans and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He won four national championships with USC and took the Buccaneers from an expansion team to a playoff contender.
McKay's playing career began at Purdue University, where he was a standout halfback from 1946 to 1949. After college, he played professionally for one season with the Cleveland Browns before transitioning into coaching. McKay spent several years coaching at various colleges before joining USC in 1960. He quickly turned the Trojans into one of the top teams in the country, winning national championships in 1962, 1967, 1972, and 1974. McKay coached some of the greatest players in college football history, including O.J. Simpson, Anthony Davis, and Lynn Swann.
In 1976, McKay left USC to become the first head coach of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, an expansion team in the NFL. Despite struggling in their first few years, McKay turned the Buccaneers into a competitive team. It took four years, but the Buccaneers made the playoffs for the first time in 1979. The following year, McKay led the team to the NFC Championship Game, where they lost to the eventual Super Bowl champions, the Oakland Raiders. McKay eventually retired in 1984, but his impact on American football will never be forgotten.
