John Robinson

John Robinson is a retired American football coach and former player who was born on July 25, 1935, in Los Angeles, California. Robinson’s American football career began in high school where he played as a quarterback for the San Luis Obispo High School Tigers. He was the starting quarterback at San Luis Obispo High School for two years and then went on to attend the University of Oregon where he played for the Oregon Ducks as a defensive back. Robinson was hired as the head coach of the University of Southern California (USC) Trojans in 1976. During his tenure with USC, Robinson led the team to four Rose Bowl victories and two national championships. Robinson was known for his innovative offensive schemes, which utilized the speed and athleticism of USC's players. After leaving USC in 1982, Robinson was hired as head coach of the NFL's Los Angeles Rams. He led the team to the playoffs six times in his nine years with the organization, including an appearance in Super Bowl XIV in 1980.

Robinson returned to USC in 1993 as head football coach and led the Trojans to two Rose Bowl appearances in his first two seasons. Robinson retired from coaching in 1997, ending his career with a record of 104-35-4 at USC and 75-68-1 in the NFL. His contributions to the game of football have been recognized through his induction into the College Football Hall of Fame and his recognition as one of the top coaches in USC history. Robinson has also served as an analyst for college football games on television since his retirement.
