Born on April 16, 1984, in Rock Hill, South Carolina, Joseph attended the University of South Carolina, where he played college football. Joseph spent his first five seasons in the NFL playing for the Bengals, during which he established himself as one of the league's top cornerbacks. In 2010, he recorded 6 interceptions and was named to the Pro Bowl for the first time. After becoming a free agent in 2011, Joseph signed with the Houston Texans, where he continued to be a key player on their defense for eight seasons. During his time with the Texans, he earned two more Pro Bowl selections and helped the team make multiple playoff appearances.

In March 2020, Joseph signed with the Tennessee Titans, but was released before the regular season began. In February 2021, he announced his retirement from the NFL after playing 14 seasons. Throughout his career, Joseph was known for his speed, agility, and ability to shut down opposing receivers.
