Riley went on to play college football ball for the Florida A&M University, where he played as a quarterback. He was drafted by the Cincinnati Bengals in 1969, a team for which he played his entire 15-year career. Riley was known for his exceptional skills as a cornerback; he set a record for the interception of 65 passes, which was only broken in 2008 - long after he had retired. He was also noted for his quiet leadership and professionalism, which were highly respected by his teammates and coaches.

Though he was snubbed when it came to Hall of Fame recognition, Ken Riley was one of the greatest NFL players of all time. Following his retirement in 1983, Riley went into coaching, and he achieved fantastic success at the high school level, coaching for Bartow High School. Despite his exceptional records and performances, he was never inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame, much to his team's and fans' dismay. On June 7, 2020, Riley passed away at 72 after battling a short-term illness. The mark he left on the game is a testament to his skills, poise, and grace under pressure.
