Kyle Rote Autographs
Kyle Rote was an American football player who was born on October 27, 1928, in San Antonio, Texas. He attended the University of Southern Methodist, where he played football, basketball, and competed in track and field. Rote was an excellent athlete who could play several positions on the field yet excelled as a halfback. He was the first player from SMU to be awarded the prestigious Heisman Trophy in 1951.
Rote's NFL career began in 1951, where he played for the New York Giants for 11 seasons, until 1961. He was one of the most versatile players in the league, playing several positions during his tenure. Rote was instrumental in leading the Giants to three NFL Championship games, one of which they won, in 1956. He was also named to the First-Team All-Pro squad three times, in 1956, 1958, and 1959. Rote was inducted into the NFL Hall of Fame in 1968, and his number 44 was later retired by the Giants.
Despite his successful football career, Rote was also a businessman and a television personality, working as a broadcaster for CBS from 1962 to 1972. He also co-hosted an American football television show, "American Sportsman," and was the president of the National Soccer League for a brief period. Despite being in the limelight, Rote never forgot his roots and was always involved in charitable activities, being the president of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society in the USA. He died on August 15, 2002, but his legacy as one of the greatest players in NFL history continues.
