Larry Robert Seiple, born on February 14, 1945, in Allentown, Pennsylvania, is a former American football player and coach who made his mark in both college and professional football. Seiple played college football for the University of Kentucky Wildcats, where he excelled as a wide receiver and running back. During his collegiate career, he set school records for average yards per catch in a season (23.5 in 1965) and career (19.8), while amassing 2,137 yards from scrimmage and scoring 18 touchdowns over three seasons.
Seiple's professional career began when he was selected by the Miami Dolphins in the seventh round of the 1967 NFL/AFL draft. He played for the Dolphins from 1967 to 1977, spanning both the American Football League (AFL) and National Football League (NFL) eras. Unlike most punters, Seiple was a versatile player who also contributed as a tight end, wide receiver, and running back. He finished his NFL career with 72 receptions for 935 yards and seven touchdowns. Seiple was a key member of the Dolphins' dynasty in the early 1970s, playing on two Super Bowl-winning teams, including the legendary 1972 undefeated team. His most memorable play came in the 1972 AFC Championship game against the Pittsburgh Steelers, when he ran for 37 yards on a fake punt, setting up a crucial touchdown in Miami's 21-17 victory.
After retiring as a player, Seiple transitioned into coaching. He spent nearly two decades coaching in the NFL, working with the Detroit Lions (1980-1984), Tampa Bay Buccaneers (1985-1986), and Miami Dolphins (1988-1999). With the Dolphins, he served as the wide receivers coach for a decade before becoming the quarterbacks coach in his final two seasons. Seiple's coaching career also included a stint at Florida Atlantic University, where he joined the program in 2000 and helped develop the team's young quarterbacks. Throughout his career, Seiple has been recognized for his contributions to football, including his induction into the Kentucky Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2014.
