Lee Roy Selmon was an American football player who was born on October 20, 1954, in Eufaula, Oklahoma. He grew up in a large family with eight siblings, which taught him the importance of hard work and perseverance. Selmon attended the University of Oklahoma, where he played defensive end on the football team from 1972 to 1975. Unfortunately, Selmon's career was cut short due to a back injury he suffered during a game in 1985. However, his impact on the game of football was undeniable. In 1995, he was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame, becoming the first player from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to receive the honor. Selmon's legacy in the sport continues to this day, with the National Football Foundation honoring him with the Distinguished American Award in 2007 for his contributions to the sport both on and off the field.
