Lydell Mitchell is a former American football player, who was born on April 1, 1949, in Salem, New Jersey. He played college football for Penn State, where he was a standout running back, and helped lead his team to win two consecutive undefeated seasons in 1968 and 1969. After college, Mitchell was drafted by the Baltimore Colts in the second round of the 1972 NFL draft. In his rookie season, he set a single-season record for most receptions by a running back with 60 catches, which was also an NFL record. During his time with the Colts, he was a three-time Pro Bowler, and he was named First-Team All-Pro in 1975.
